Hair Restoration Q & A
What is hair restoration?
Hair restoration services rejuvenate your scalp to stimulate the growth of your hair follicles. Dr. Beri offers two kinds of minimally invasive hair restoration services: microneedling and injections of your own platelet-rich plasma (PRP).
What are the advantages of hair restoration?
In addition to feeling more confident in your look, Dr. Beri’s hair restoration treatments have a few advantages over traditional hair transplants:
- More natural-looking results
- Less invasive
- Milder discomfort during the procedure
- Shorter recovery
- No bandages required
- Pain medication not usually needed
How does hair restoration work?
Dr. Beri uses either microneedling or injections of your own platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to stimulate the growth of hair follicles.
With microneedling, Dr. Beri uses a pen-shaped device fitted with tiny needles. She gently rolls the tool over your scalp, making micro-incisions to the upper layer of your skin. Those very minor wounds trigger the healing process in your scalp, which not only rejuvenates the skin surrounding your thinning spots, but also has a positive effect on the follicles.
For PRP services, Dr. Beri uses a syringe to draw a little blood from your arm to harvest the platelet-rich plasma suspending all your red and white blood cells. She puts the plasma in a tube, then separates and remove its red blood cells with the help a centrifuge. Next, she injects the harvested PRP into troubled areas of your scalp or incorporates it into microneedling.
Does hair restoration hurt?
Hair restoration with microneedling brings only a mild sensation, while the PRP injection method does involve some irritation for a few days. At your request, Dr. Beri applies a cooling cream to your scalp to minimize discomfort during the procedure.
Recovery doesn’t usually require pain medication. Dr. Beri recommends a warm, not hot, shower for easy relief. Bruising is possible, but it subsides within a week or two.
How long does hair restoration last?
Results vary for hair restoration using microneedling or PRP injections. After a few monthly treatments, you may find it beneficial to repeat the procedure once every three or four months to maintain hair growth.
