Botox & Fillers Q & A
What are dermal fillers?
Everyone has a natural layer of fat under their skin that provides just enough cushioning to create a healthy appearance, adding fullness, lifting skin, and softening wrinkles. Over time, the fat thins, making cheeks look hollow and giving your face a gaunt appearance.
Dermal fillers are specially formulated to replace this fat. When they’re injected under your skin, they restore volume and diminish the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
What is Juvéderm?
Juvéderm is a family of injectable dermal fillers made from hyaluronic acid that’s mixed into a smooth gel. Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of your skin, where its job is to hydrate and add volume.
As a group, the various Juvéderm products treat several cosmetic concerns, as they:
- Plump Lips
- Add volume and lift cheeks
- Diminish moderate to severe wrinkles, such as nasolabial folds
- Diminish fine lines and wrinkles around your nose and mouth
You’ll see immediate results after a dermal filler is injected. Depending on the Juvéderm product you receive, the results last one to two years.*
What is Botox?
Botox is a purified form of botulinum toxin that’s also injected to treat wrinkles, but it works differently than dermal fillers. It blocks nerve signals that make your muscles contract.
When it’s injected into muscles, the muscles relax. As a result, wrinkles caused by those muscles are significantly diminished or eliminated.
What types of wrinkles are treated with Botox?
Your face develops two different types of wrinkles as you age.
The first type, static wrinkles, are caused by the loss of facial fat, and dermal fillers can treat those. The second type, dynamic wrinkles, arise after years of repetitive muscle movements you use to make facial expressions, like frowning.
Since Botox only affects muscles, it treats dynamic wrinkles such as:
- Crow’s feet
- Frown lines
- Forehead furrows
- Bunny lines on the upper nose
- Neck bands
With Botox injections, you’ll still look natural, and your face can still communicate your emotions because Dr. Kalsi carefully targets a few small areas of muscles. It takes a few days to see results following a Botox treatment, and your results can last for up to six months. Repeated treatments can make the results last longer.*
Please call Dr. Kalsi or book a consultation online when you’re ready to diminish wrinkles and restore a more youthful appearance.
